Joann Slavin (H2M Labs)
Keeping Customers Happy
Joann Slavin, Senior Vice President and Director of H2M Labs, directs
all laboratory operations with over 50 scientists and technicians, and
manages the programs necessary to conduct the organic, inorganic, and
bacteriological services of the laboratory, and reviews and supervises
the methods, protocols and guidelines for sample collection and analysis
based on US EPA and state contract requirements and chain-of-custody
procedures. As the laboratory’s safety officer, OSHA representative, and
trained toxicologist, Joann supervises all aspects of occupational safety and
health programs. Through her direct effort and dedication, H2M Labs has
achieved the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) Seal of
Excellence annually since 2001.
Currently a member of the H2M Board of Directors and an ESOP Trustee, Joann is also Past
President of the New York Association of Approved Environmental Laboratories, on the Executive
Board of ACIL’s Environmental Sciences Section, past president and Board member of the Melville
Rotary and belongs to the American Laboratory Managers Association, American Chemical Society,
Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honor Society, American Society of Mass Spectroscopy and the Society
of Forensic Toxicologists.
Named among the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business by Long Island Business News,
Joann received a Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award in 2010, and provides community
service to several organizations, including the Harlem Children’s Society, INN Family and Children’s
Services, Carol’s Cause and the Girl Scouts. She is a graduate of St. John’s University with a BS
and MS in toxicology.

Prior to founding Pace Analytical in 1978, Steve Vanderboom worked for
Serco Laboratories in Roseville, MN for 3 years. Active in Trinity Lutheran
Church in Medina, MN; ACIL; the Minnesota Society of Professional
Engineers; Young President’s Organization and the World President’s
Organization, Steve earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the South Dakota
School of Mines and Technology in 1974 and a MS in Environmental
Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1976.
